Disability Information Bureau (DIB) encourages people to stay independent and resilient by empowering
them to gain confidence and make positive changes in their lives. We do this with the various services we provide:
Welfare Rights Advice
The DIB can help you to navigate the welfare benefits system, through checking what benefits you are entitled to and assisting you with applying for them.
You can meet with a Welfare Adviser who will help you with:
- Disability & health related benefits (including PIP, DLA, ESA, Attendance & Carers Allowance, UC50);
- Applying for or renewing your benefit;
- Mandatory reconsideration & tribunals;
- Benefit entitlement checks.
Support coaching
The DIB can help you to overcome practical, financial, social and emotional barriers through either direct support or signposting to other areas of help. Additionally, for those who want to get back to work, we will help with volunteering or job searches and related support.
You can meet with a Support Coach who can help you with:
- Mental health support services;
- IT support & digital inclusion;
- Finding social activities and groups;
- Writing a CV;
- Finding volunteering opportunities;
- Training.
Information and signposting
We can help you find information on topics such as sports and leisure, local support organisations, suppliers of equipment, home adaptations and many other areas.

IT Support and Training
We provide courses and tuition focusing on practical and useful everyday IT skills.
We can help you to communicate with friends and family, access online services and stay safe on the internet. We can also provide information on adaptive technology, including services for people with visual impairments. Our service is available to adults of all ages and abilities, whether you have a disability or not. Our courses include:
- Computer Basics
- Microsoft Office applications (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Desktop Publishing, Presentations)
- Email and Internet
- Employment related IT (creating CVs, covering letters, etc)
- Advice and training in adaptive technology
